Each person over the age of 65 is assigned a volunteer befriender, who provides friendly conversation and companionship on a regular, usually weekly, basis over a long period of time at their own home. Befriending provides an older person with a link to the outside world and often acts as a gateway for other services and valuable support. Each visit lasts at least an hour depending on the client's needs and the volunteer's availability. Our volunteers are not insured to take people out. This service is available on weekdays during office hours. Weekends may occasionally be possible. Free but donations welcome. The below address is the Age UK Tonbridge office. Befrienders will visit clients in their homes. Clients should be aware that there may be a waiting list.
